Lynchburg, Virginia

The Lynchburg branch was started in 2008 by James and Juli Ann Bourdon. With the desire to reach inner-city youth for Christ through outdoor adventures. Since 2008, we have had two additional branches spring up, one in our neighboring town of Amherst VA and the other in Keweenaw, MI. The Lynchburg Branch is our main branch and serves as a resource for our other branches.

Amherst, Virginia

Our mission is to train young adults in our community to be disciples for Christ in all areas of their lives by exercising the physical body as well as hearts and minds with adventures in God's great outdoors. Come join our journey! Urban Mountain Adventures Amherst was founded by Ryan and Lynette Ferro in 2016. A branch off of Urban Mountain Adventures based in Lynchburg, VA. Ryan was a volunteer at the beginning of UMA Lynchburg and continued to contribute to the organization over most of his teen years. In early 2015 he started hosting a bible study in his home for youth,  the vision for UMA Amherst had begun. After multiple months of praying, Ryan brought the prospect of starting a Amherst branch of the organization to Mr. Bourdon, Director/founder of UMA. The process/target is a little bit different then the Lynchburg UMA, but the goal is the same: sharing the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.

UMAK Keweenaw, Michigan

Chris and Melissa Rebman are the Founders of the UMAK branch in UP Michigan. They are longtime friends of James & Juli Ann Bourdon. In 2012, they started another branch of UMA in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan called UMAK (Urban Mountain Adventures of the Keweenaw). Chris, the UMAK Director, works full-time as a 5th grade teacher keeping him in touch with the needs of today’s youth. Melissa works part time with mothers in the WIC program and brings a nurturing environment to UMAK. They meet weekly with at-risk youth to model Christ’s love and strong family values while also taking them on outdoor adventures that bends to the UP such as snowshoeing, building fires in the snow, and of course things surrounding Lake Superior. Chris and Melissa have 4 children who they serve with and enjoy sharing their home with others.
