VOTE for UMA!

UPDATE:

Urban Mountain Adventures placed in the top 5 non-profits in this local contest. We couldn't have done it without your support and votes, so thank you! The magazine plans to promote UMA and our youth in the Nov/Dec issue.

V-O-T-E :)

We, here at Urban Mountain Adventures, think the world of our youth and we want to highlight THEM! Yes, we get to guide them on backpacking adventures, rock climbing trips, and rafting down the James River. Because of that, we generally are the ones who are highlighted but now this is their time.

If we are one of the 15 nonprofit finalists in this particular contest, we will have the opportunity to showcase each of them so that Lynchburg (and beyond!) will then be able to see more than a face in a photograph, people will be able to learn a little more of their likes and dislikes, their passions and their dreams. They need encouragement just as much as you or I do, so will you vote and begin being that encouraging support to them?

Read our interview with UMA co-founder, Juli Bourdon:

Why would you like Urban Mountain Adventures to be a finalist in this contest?

Juli:

Juli Bio

Seven years ago our family of four moved to Daniels Hill in Lynchburg mainly so we could buy a house we could afford & spend our free time enjoying our kids and serving our community. It didn't take long after moving in that we met kids always hanging outside looking for something to do. My husband loves to hike, camp, fish, kayak, or anything that gets him outside. In sharing our adventures we quickly found out most of them didn't know where Sharp Top was, much less all the other cool places. He became excited to take them to explore the mountains and rivers of Virginia.

That is where Urban Mountain Adventures was birthed. It started with my husband, our family, and a few volunteers taking trips with the youth, and soon volunteers were moving into our neighborhood to be more involved in the kids daily lives. We have seen many come and go, but overall we have the same kids we did 5-6 years ago and new ones coming. We absolutely adore each of them and UMA winning will allow the Lynchburg Community to know there is an amazing generation of young ones growing up in the Daniels Hill area. So voting here is not about winning a prize, but validating to the kids, parents, and our staff, that our Community IS standing with us to say to each of these kids, "You CAN do great things, You ARE important, and no matter what happens in your life, We ARE for you!"
